Canadian revolution

The Canadian revolution has succeeded. After 13 years of a Liberal government, the Conservatives have taken over. The final score (hat tip Mark Steyn, who has more here):

CONSERVATIVES 124
LIBERALS 103
BLOC QUEBECOIS 51
NDP 29
Independent 1

It's a minority government, which means the Tories can't make as many changes as they'd like (or, rather, as need to be made), but it is a very good start.

The new Prime Minister? Stephen Harper. (link hat tip to Michelle.)

Fearmongering to the contrary, no bogeyman appears when the Conservative Party leader lets down his hair. How nefarious can a man be who is writing a book on hockey, likes going to the movies on Sunday nights and favourite food is Chinese buffet? And who knew? He has a wicked sense of humour. "I think most Canadians would be surprised to learn how funny he is," says friend Jim Rajotte, a Conservative MP for Edmonton. "He does an awful lot of impressions -- he does Mulroney, he does Preston Manning, he does John McCallum, that's probably his best one, and apparently he does Desmond Tutu although I've never heard it."

Who knew?

Captain Ed was all over it, here and also here, where he notes that the current PM voluntarily walked the plank. Wise, as he likely would have been tossed out anyway.

We've seen things like all across the western world. More conservative leaders are being elected, and the trend looks like it will continue for some time to come.

Suits me.
